Fursuit Care Guide

Washing

Please wash paws, tails, sleeves, and body suits in a washing machine in gentle and cold settings with gentle and bleach-free detergent. Do not put the item in the drying machine. Fursuit heads are waterproof. I would highly recommend a Bissell little green vacuum for fursuit heads. Here is a tutorial on how to use it for your head! If not, wash by hand in a sink or bathtub with cold water and gentle, bleach-free detergent. Air dry items in front of a fan for 24 hours or until completely dry, brushing now and then. Using a hair dryer in a cool setting is okay. I would recommend washing your item like this every few months or after an intense adventure like a convention.

Brushing

The most important part of fursuit care is brushing! You should purchase a soft bristle hair brush and a slicker pet brush. Use the pet brush for long fur and the hair brush for shaved fur. Brush the fur out along the direction the fur is flowing. I would recommend brushing before and after wearing. Brush gently as you can accidentally rip out fur fibers.

Fursuit Spray

Fursuit spray is by far a lifesaver! Nobody likes a smelly suit, so your items will need some freshening up eventually. I would recommend supporting a small business on Etsy that makes scented sprays just for fursuits! Fursuit spray can be applied on the inside and outside of the item, brush after. This will also disinfect your fursuit from any germs, sweat, and grime. A little goes a long way!
